Morris Holmquest Tidwell & Co. was founded in 1986 by Jim Morris and Nan Holmquest after the CPA firm they worked for was acquired by a large national firm. They saw the need for a CPA practice focused on individuals and small businesses rather than large corporate conglomerates. In January 1986, they established Morris & Holmquest CPAs. In 1993, they were joined by Mary Alice Tidwell.
In 2024, after nearly four decades, Jim Morris (the last remaining partner) sold the firm to Derek Robinett, CPA, CFA®, PFS™, who now serves as managing partner.
Derek is a Certified Public Accountant with a Master’s in Finance from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He began his career with the Texas Comptroller’s Office, where he gained in-depth knowledge of state tax law, and later worked with CPA firms across Texas, honing his expertise in tax preparation and planning.
He also holds credentials as a Chartered Financial Analyst® and Personal Financial Specialist™, allowing him to advise clients on estate, retirement, and broader financial planning needs.
